Fiona Apple Announces 'Fetch The Bolt Cutters' Release Date

Austin Music Awards

Good news has been few and far between lately, but today (April 1) is a great day for Fiona Apple fans. After revealing that she was going to release her new album Fetch the Bolt Cutters "really soon" after being told she should put it out in October, the singer-songwriter announced that she would be putting out the new project digitally on April 17. The news came via Instagram, thanks to Apple's housemate Zelda Hallman.

The singer revealed the album's title during an interview with The New Yorker a couple weeks, explaining that it's a reference to a scene in The Fall where Gillian Anderson’s character “calls out the phrase after finding a locked door to a room where a girl has been tortured.”

Fetch The Bolt Cutters is the followup to 2012's Idler Wheel. When asked if it compares to her older material during an interview with Vulture last year, Apple was hesitant in her answer.

"It’s probably its own thing. But I don’t know how to articulate that," she admitted. "It’s like, if you’ve been working out every day for a month and then nobody sees you, they see the difference, but if you’ve been doing it all the time, you don’t really see the difference. I can’t really know the growth or the evolution or anything like that in what I do, because I’m in the middle of it."
